Building a calm Scandi nursery around cane, cream, and warm oak

The nursery we started with#

A guest room with a beige carpet, a dresser leftover from the last tenant, and a fluorescent overhead. Nothing said "welcome."

The design brief#

Scandi nursery. Warm neutrals, natural textures, gender-neutral, ages up. Rules:

• No primary colors. Muted only. This palette works from newborn through toddler.
• Cane repeats. Crib, side chair, pendant. Same material three times reads intentional.
• One woven pendant, no ceiling grid. Diffuse, warm light for late-night feeds.

The install order#

   Prime and paint walls warm cream

   Refinish the hardwood floor to warm oak (or lay a wood-look LVP if renting)

   Cane rocking chair beside the crib for feeds
